Tis the season to be glowing! At least that's the goal! Fall and winter months bring on the coldest days and those cool temperatures usually brings the worst out of our skin. Over drying is one skin problem I'm prone to, so during this season I use great caution with what I'm doing with my skin to make sure it survives! Read on to learn 5 great tips for glowing skin and why you should be doing it now!
1. Train that skin
A skincare routine is a must! It helps your skin stay in great condition and supports a smooth and glowing surface. You're shedding skin cells throughout the day. Help your skin remove those dead cells by making sure to keep a daily routine of cleaning and moisturizing your face and body. A great face routine would be:
1. Clean your face to unclog those pores.
2. Treat your target areas by adding a serum or cream that is packed with skin care benefits like vitamin C.
3. Add a moisturizer to seal and protect during sleep.
For your body use the same routine. Clean, treat with a body oil and use a lotion that will protect and moisturize. Keep up with a routine and you will see results within a month if your on top of it. Think of it as training your skin!
2. Hydrate!
Drink your water and mind your business! This is honestly my favorite step! I incorporate this as much in my daily life as possible and it works wonders. Water keeps your body hydrated, refreshed and helps maintains your skin's elasticity. So make sure to get in about 5-7 water bottles a day for a woman and 7-8 bottles for men. (I'm so bad at this!) Matter of fact let me grab a bottle now!
3. Exfoliate
If you haven't exfoliated in this lifetime then you are missing out! Soft as a babies ass, seriously! Exfoliating helps to keep your skin silky soft and smooth by buffing away and removing dead skin cells. You can make a sugar or salt scrub at home just by adding it to a olive, grapeseed or jojoba oil. Coconut oil is known to clog pores on the face so i'd stay away but it's still perfect to use as a body scrub. (oil in the tub without it being emulsified can be slippery so be careful).
4. Protect from UV Rays
I'm a summer girl! I don't care about nothing else besides being in someones water while the sun beams on me. Sunlight can be good though, as long as you have proper protection from overexposure. Although we love the sun, too much UV (ultra violet), exposure can cause sunburn, damage or even kill skin cells on the inner layers of your skin. Oh hell no! So make sure your face and skin products are protecting you as much as it's making you look and feel good. Avocado, coconut, almond and lavender oils are natural oils that have said to offer a natural SPF. So even if you have that scrumptious dark chocolate skin, let's preserve that sexy and throw some on!
5. Eat Vitamins
We always hear the comment that you are what you eat! This one is a no brainer. Take your daily vitamins or grab fresh fruits and veggies to help boost your vitamin intake and support your skin glow up! Did you know orange fruit and vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes and pumpkins, and lutein, found in kale, papaya and spinach are both important for normal skin cell development and healthy skin tone. Yeap! Read that and was like, BET! So add beneficial veggies to your diet and stock up your vitamin cabinet.
These are just 5 of many skin care tips there are out there in the universe! Most importantly make sure to choose a skin care regimen that is beneficial for your skin type. Avoid products full of so many chemicals that will leave your skin feeling dry and overly oily. Research, research especially when it comes to your bodies largest organ, YOUR SKIN!
